MADE FOR STUDENTS
ad manus medici
Our story
In 2021, sitting behind the desk at First Aid lectures, we created very first demo design of our own hoodie. The reason? We simply disliked the way our Uni hoodies looked like, actually we disliked it loads:) Not only did we find having a large logo covering the entire front side unstylish, we hated the tight fit as well. (Not to bitch at our medical collegues, we think they did a great job). We simply didn't want to buy them ourselves. On the other hand, of course uni hoodies shouldn't primarily be about style. That's where we got an idea: what if we start our own thing? This was december 2021. (the first design mentioned ad manus medici on the front side, but not as a main slogan. Anyways, you wouldn't want to see it:))
After finishing first year, in the midst of summer, one of us recieved basketball shoes as a bday gift (banger) and the other one recieved a secret item: a custom hoodie with a slogan on it. Unpacking it, bright blue coloured hoodie, great fit, and very detailed embroidery in the middle saying: "ad manus medici," exactly how its written on the top of this page. There it was – a minimalist hoodie, stylish, but medical themed – "into the hands of a doctor." Took a minute to comprehend the meaning myself. We loved it.
We loved it so much we realized others would potentially love it as well. We pulled up some fresh colours of a best fit we could find and sewed some more. Not long after, we acquired a first customer – our close friend Fany (who we would love to say huge thanks to for wasting her money on us). We were so happy someone else would actually buy it, we created a website immediately and set up our own store. Two years and 100 hoodies sold later, we love to say we have a small little brand for medical students. You can now buy many more products from us, but we sincerely appreciate every single customer, as we are still at the beggining of our story.
Philosophy
As a local sustainable brand, we believe that medical students deserve apparel they can feel proud to wear both on and off-campus. Our goal is to craft apparel that is sleek, modern & aesthetic. We personally prefer minimalist clothing with simple prints, but we aim to create whole range of designs for different style preferences to suit such a diverse group.
At the same time, we're driven by sustainability. Our apparel is made from organic, responsibly sourced materials, that minimize the negative impact that production of textile has on the environment, because we believe everyone – students or doctors – should be mindful of the planet. At the heart of it, we think medics are cool people, and their apparel should reflect it. With a focus on design, comfort, and sustainability, we aim to give medical students not just clothing, but also a community of like minded students, that can be bond through style.
Pricing
We acknowledge that our products come with a high price tag, especially for students. We carefully chose a supplier that offers materials, colours and fit that we actually liked and wear ourselves. We could potentially buy cheap textile and make more profit, but why would we create yet another fashion brand producing toxic waste for our planet? That's exactly what we don't want to do. Therefore, we chose GOTS = organic cotton based products that are expensive, but high quality and sustainable. With proper care, these pieces should last a long time as well. To make it affordable, we lower the profit margins and don't personally take profit out of the company. We are passionate about what we do.
Logo
"ad manus medici" is latin phrase put on a prescriptions that are intended to be used only by a medical doctor. The print is our secret code, lowkey, unrecognizable to people from different to medical professions.
